The Renewal of Britannia Centre was facilitated by the City and Vancouver School Board for nearly a decade, through many layers of design and consultation work. COVID slowed down our progress and changes to VSB priorities confused the way forward. Following the 2022 Vancouver election, City Council "paused" the Britannia Renewal to reconsider the Master Plan for the site.

After several years of work by the community, the City has come back to the table and is putting forward a plan for a replacement Aquatics and Fitness Centre to be built on the Britannia parking lot adjacent to the Ice Rink. We are waiting for full details about next steps and to hear what funding will be set aside for the Renewal in the upcoming Capital Plan. The hope is to break ground in 2031. The VSB has chosen not to be involved with the Renewal for the indefinite future.
