Getting Feedback from our Neighbours

In-person Patio Chats use a smile and sticker stations to get feedback on issues in our Vancouver neighbourhoods. See below about how you can host these events.

Hosting Patio Chats

To be successful, we want to be sure that our volunteers/hosts have fun. Don't commit to more events than you are comfortable with. Each event will take 1-1/2 to 2 hrs.

Patio Chat components

  • The focus for our community engagement is the colourful sticker station. The stickers bring people in to vote on issues that are important to their neighbourhood.
  • We also accept recycling items that the City does not pick up. Together, the sticker station and recycling get people involved and keep them coming back week after week.
  • The Patio Chats contact form makes it easy for our guests to get BLC's Good News newsletter as well as newsletters from other community centres and neighbourhood associations. They can also indicate a willingness to volunteer and give back to the community.

Getting started

  • The first decision is where and when to host your Patio Chat. You can either take over an existing Patio Chat or choose your own. it might be easiest to promote the pop-up recycling to your local community centre.
  • Next, you'll want to get a partner or two because it's more fun together and you'll need back up for when you won't be available.

Initially, we'll drop off the materials you need.

  • Sticker station with strips of stickers for the issues. When your board gets close to full we'll swap it out for an empty one. That way, we can track the statistics at our head office.
  • Set of three recycle boxes: 1) plastic bags, 2) styrofoam, 3) batteries, light bulbs, other electronic waste.
  • Recycling flyers with suggestions for volunteering on the back. Later, you can print your own copies.
  • Patio Chat contact forms. Later, you can print your own copies. We'll pick up the completed forms when we exchange the sticker station boards.

You'll need to supply a table or easel for each sticker station board.
